There is a particular relationship of sound that embodies the skateboarding experience. Loved or hated the sound amplifies in urban spaces enveloping the structures while at the same time alerting the authorities to your presence. As the echoes of trucks, wheels, bearings and wood sonically and rhythmically transverse the landscape skateboarders often embody this sound where they better understanding and appreciation the elements of rhythm.
As part of a recent ethnographic research visit to Bordeaux I spent time recoding to movements of skateboarders, capturing their rhythms as they moved about the city in approved skate spaces and began to explore these locations as visual data. Here are the results of those findings.
