Digital storytelling is a working process that is identifiable with skateboarders, one that is appropriate and echoes the narrative of the community. Skateboarding’s digital story can be mapped as a timeline illustrated in the countless DVD’s sold, on the specific webpages and social media sites employed by skateboard companies and magazines engaging global communities. These community driven digital stories have move beyond the confines of a subcultural narrative emerging in fashion films engaging with new audiences. As a methodological process I will be examining documentary as method, illustrating the developing nature of digital storytelling within the subculture to explore authenticity and experience. In preparation for this journey I am off to the IDFA in Amsterdam to explore and take part in discussions examining creative documentary methods employed in industry.
